The owners of Top restaurant want to bring their business to the historic area of Depot Park. The problem in the story is that the owners, Scott Shillington and Harold Mendez, have to get approved by the Gainesville City Commission.
2. Gas Station, Store coming to Waldo Road Wal-Mart Area

Murphy Oil wants to build a gas station across from Wal-Mart of Waldo road. The problem is that it was assumed the Wal-Mart would bring more business to that area and fill the empty lot, which is owned by Wal-Mart. Murphy Oil has a problem because it needs to get the correct permits to make a gas station and hope it gets enough business out on Waldo road.
3. Construction manager uses gentrification to keep South Main/Depot Feel

Chrisopher Fillie is using gentrification to help small business owners and artists who typically "get shafted" by the process. The problem and the people who have the problem are small towns with poor people who get pushed out of their homes because of increased rent or new buildings and nicer stores.
4. UF Kicker Hardin not with team

Austin Hardin, UF kicker, cannot play with the school. The problem facing Hardin is that he is going to graduate in the spring semester, but now might transfer schools to where he can play.
5. The Road to Restoring Civility

Shelby Taylor discusses that civility is gone from our generation. The problem is younger generations will have to face new challenges and if their teachers or mentors are not helping them grow into people who can properly solve these issue there will be challenges.
I really like the diversity of topics that you selected here to really touch on a wide array of interests. I am very interested in seeing how the new project rolls out with the owners of the Top. The story about the UF kicker will also be interesting to follow for football fans.

We both used a couple of the same articles! Your last article is a really interesting read. I do believe civility has been dwindling down over the past few years but I think that there is still hope. Although social media outlets could be a reason for the lack of civility, I think it has been a way for people to spread positivity and problems that should be talked about.

ReplyDeleteYou have presented a wide array of interesting local articles that have important relevance to many communities. So many cities are revitalizing their once blighted downtown areas, but at a very serious cost. People become homeless, and small businesses can no longer afford rent. It is encouraging to hear that someone is trying to bring solutions to this problem.
